Dana Calhoun (aka Mama D) started her adventure in the restaurant business as a teenager working for a family restaurant in the 90s called The Pasta Corner. The Pasta Corner, in Saratoga, California, was the Italian version of Chipotle: quick-serve counter service, homemade pasta and sauces, and reasonable prices. The irony? Dana ended up managing two Chipotle’s nearly two decades later, gaining experience from a company with an award-winning business model. This inspired Dana to want to open her restaurant.

Immediately after graduating from Los Gatos High School and while attending college, Dana worked in upper-scale restaurants and developed a passion for food, wine, and the business portion of the restaurant industry. She worked for three major Fortune 500 corporations as a restaurant manager and executive chef before opening her establishment in 2009. As a federal contractor, Dana owned and operated the Blew By You Cafe, serving breakfast and lunch for the air traffic controllers of the Northern California Tracon at Mather Field Airforce Base. In addition, Dana operated a full-service catering company simultaneously. She employed her family & friends during the economic crisis of 2009 and, as a single mother, raised her son alongside her in the kitchen.

After deciding to take a break from the industry, Dana focused on home, raising her son, and attending Industrial and Organizational Psychology college. Dana’s passion for the food business doesn’t stop at creating in the kitchen. Still, it expands to the overall function of a business, as she truly cares about how employees are treated, including passing on skills to the next generation of restaurant managers and chefs. With her experience, Dana worked as a consultant for restaurant and bar owners. Dana has now returned to the service industry full-time and is ready to serve you!

With decades of experience, her business is concentrated on catering and business consulting.

Dana understands how diverse owning an eatery can be and how time-consuming the business tends to be. Dana’s consulting program helps entrepreneurs evaluate and reconsider priorities to increase the top and bottom lines of the P’n’L. Dana can help redevelop menus from top to bottom, train management staff, and help with technological areas of opportunity.
